Our weekend away

So, I should be doing the dishes and picking up this disaster area we call home, and I really should be working out on the elliptical... but, I will post instead. It's way more fun. :)
This weekend we went to Rapid City, SD for a little family getaway and had such a good time. We drove up Sunday afternoon (three hour drive) and spent the night in a hotel. The plan was to let Nate play in the pool but we got there too late...We also planned to have Nate sleep in bed with us since it was just one night but I don't think we will do that again! He has never really slept with us before so he had a blast. He rolled around and played and giggled for almost 2 hours before he FINALLY fell asleep. And we learned something new about Nate: He is the wildest sleeper I have ever seen! Are all babies like that? He rolled around and around and was up and down and on top of me, then wacking me in the face, then kicking me in the stomach... wow, we didn't sleep much that night. I was just glad when morning came because that meant... shopping! Ok, so I only had 2 hours before we had to take our volkswagon in for a check up (the real reason for our trip) but I made the most of it. Do you know how fast 2 hours goes for someone who gets to go shopping in a mall maybe once every 3-4 months? Too fast! I actually got alot of shopping done and would have been afraid to see my credit card bill had I stayed much longer...
While our car was getting worked on we went to Bear Country USA. We have always driven by it on our way to see Mt. Rushmore but never stopped and I'm so glad we did this time. Nate had sooo much fun. I thought that we would see a few bears off in the distance but we saw lots of bears and other wildlife up close! They would come right up to your car and practically look in the window. It was amazing! Unfortunately I left our camera back in our car at the shop. We got to see wolves, big horn sheep, mt. goats, mt. lions, bobcats, lynx, and much more. My favorite was the baby bears. There must have been 10 of them and they were so cute!
We ended our trip by getting some good eats at The Olive Garden (yum) and then, to top it off, Nate slept all the way home! Nice!
It was a quick trip but I guess it was just good to get out of town and be together as a little family. We just don't do that enough!
Well, I need to get on to other things...Derrick's assistant called in sick this morning which meant I had to work all day so the house still stands as we left it on Sunday.

Yes little toddlers are the most restless sleepers! At least ours are.Your story made me laugh out loud though because I know exactly what you are talking about.
Also, the animals sounded amazing! That is one of Isaiah's favorite things is to see animals (wild ones especially). What a fun weekend it sounds like you had!

That sounds like a fun getaway! It's nice when you can get off and have some quality time together. :)

So, I laughed out loud too -- BECAUSE we have had similar hotel room (and camping in a tent) experiences, even a King sized bed does not suffice for the little person who takes over! Cribs are a beautiful thing, aren't they? :-) I'm glad you had such a good trip and so many animals and SHOPPING! Woo-hoo!
